I don't know... There is nearly no chance at all that the Tolkien foundation will allow it, not many people will want to start a new game with such a large game as LOTRO already stabilized on the market, and there will always be players that want it in another way. They are here, they are in every game that exists now and they'll be in every future game to come. It's just plain impossible to create a game that suits everyone's needs.
If I HAD to make some changes, I am not too sure about what I'd do yet. A visual update would be nice, but since the game is already quite laggy as it is now, they'd need to work on the game performance first. Changes in PVP would be nice too, a bit like in SWTOR perhaps (for those who don't know: you can start on the good side or the bad side in swtor and grow & train your character on either side) with battle front areas matching the realistic fronts of the original story. A skill based system instead of a class-based one would be nice too, but it would change the entire game and I'm afraid it won't have the same feeling that it does now. Even though the graphics in LOTRO are getting older, it still is the best MMO I've ever played and I don't want to see that ruined because some people want the game to be different.
The thing in my opinion is that the people who want changes are always quick to find the forums and communication platforms, and you see a lot of them, but a lot of the players who are happy with the way it is are nowhere to be seen (probably because they prefer enjoying the game rather than complaining somewhere with some other unhappy people). If they'd do a survey among LOTRO players on how happy they are, the results might be quite contradictory to what you hear and see on the internet.
