How the new trait system works (in a nutshell):
First the questions answered:
1. Where are my skills? Your skills will be in one of three locations. If the skill is standalone, meaning it is not tied down by spec restrictions, it will be found in the usual skills list (K key for shortcut). If the skill is trait restricted you will need to spec for it in order to use it. If the skill is deep in the spec tier you will need to use spec points to unlock the skill for use. The last location skills can be found is in the Set Bonus column of the trait tree. Set Bonuses are locked on accounts that are F2P and Premium and must be either purchased from the in-game store, or you can do a 1 month subscription to unlock them permanently. Set Bonuses are open to all VIP and Lifetime accounts.
2. What are specs? Each class has 3 ways in which to play them; red, yellow, or blue. The meaning behind the colors is different for each class, so look them over to figure out the full details. The basics are as follows: Red is most often the DPS spec for most classes, yellow in general is crowd control, buffing, debuffing, area of affect damage and damage over time specs, blue is healing, pets, power conserving dps and area of effect defense. If you work to complete all of your class deeds you will see the advantages and disadvantages each of these specs have in different situations.
3. What spec should I use? What spec you use depends on the given situation. If you are soloing, most classes can use red, while others can use yellow or blue specs. If doing instances with fellowships or raids you may be asked to spec for the conditions of the instance to make it more balanced for all. It would not make much sense for a fellowship to all be spec'd red, since red specs in most cases uses power up quickly.
4. How do I get Spec Points (SP)? You level your character and complete your class deeds. You will get 15 SP from completing all of your class deeds. I currently do not know the level to SP ratio, it could be 1 SP every few levels.
5. What other bonuses do I get for completing my class deeds, besides SP and TP? You gain bonus skills in your spec tree to use. Each deed set grants a bonus skill. They will be listed when you spec or re-spec your character, in the chat window.
Now to explain this table:
This is a listing of the Champion class deeds. There are 39 deeds total. It is not worded exactly to the letter as the deed log nor in the same order. The reason I did it like this is to let members know how to complete the deeds and not having to guess at it.
If you see a skill to that says Hit, that means you must strike a monster in combat that is not trivial (grey text) to your character, in order to advance the deed. If you see a skill that says Use, that means you can cast the skill on yourself or a fellowship member (most of these can be done when not in combat). If you see [critical] listed in the details that means the hits to the monster must be critical blows, normal hits will not advance the deed.
As before class deeds have a daily limit on using them. If you are working on them I suggest adding them to your quest tracker. When number of uses stops advancing check to see if the progress meter is yellow in your deed log. If it is, remove it from the quest tracker and work on your other class deeds, re-specing as needed.
(For those interested in aiding me in updating the deed tracker: The info I need for Burglar, Captain, and Warden is like what you see in the table here. I need the deeds for each tier, what skills to use, if the skill is used on monster or self/fellow, and how many times to complete the deed. If you wish to aid me you can mail me this info info in game. Thank you kindly in advance for your help)
