I think you misread a bit Herebrand, it says at the top of the thread that it discusses the minor changes to housing that come with HD, not the major housing update that will come in the future. I heard the big update will come around the start of 2014 (current ETA, probably a bit later if I know Turbine well enough by now).
About the changes: I find them ridiculous. All of them. Merge escrow with housing chests so that it can take up your personal storage space? 125G for an upgrade from 45-60 storage slots, or a total of 156 gold for 60 slots? That's 260 times more than what it costs today! I thought Turbine would improve housing, not blow it up... The only positive thing I can see here is having sub-chests in your housing storage, all the rest is just ********. Let's hope Turbine will realise this and drop the costs by 90% before it gets ugly.

Best thing to help increase storage space? Turbine close the AH and sell all the rare drops at merchants in the area they drop in. This will end the need of hoarding items in player vaults. Guild Wars 1 did it and let the merchant buy/sell cost reflect on its demand. Its not that hard to do. Besides who really needs a player run market to play the game.

Sorry about the confusion. These changes still seem extremely expensive though. The costs MUST be revised before this is implemented, surely.
