Hi guys. I have been trying for a day and a half to install LOTRO back onto my desktop computer which is now up and running again so I can give my Dad his laptop back (it was a loan).
My desktop has Windows XP, service pack 3 on it. My brother made sure everything was updated, but I suppose I could check again if there's anything else that needs updating since he looked at it a couple days ago. *sigh*
I downloaded the game from the LOTRO.com website, and it installs PandoMediaBooster (I don't know where or how to download the files separately)... and after that's done installing, I go to install the game, and I only get a few files in before I run into error messages. One of them reads as follows...
C:\Program Files\Turbine\The Lord of the Rings Online\client_highres.dat
An error has occurred while trying to copy a file: The source file is corrupted.
Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation.
I tried skipping it yesterday, and I just got the same error message, except it said "\client_2.dat" at the end.
I have been looking round the forums, even copied my error message into the search bar... not coming up with anything especially helpful yet (I am not savvy at this -.-)
Help?
~Bookwerm~

Have you got plenty of space on your computer to install the game? It takes up about 13GB if I remember correctly

If it says that your source file is corrupted, it means an error has occurred while writing that file to your hard disc while downloading. You could try to skip all and use the repair function afterwards to fix everything, but there's a slim chance that this won't work if you're missing one of the necessary files for that option.
What I do when I need to re-install LOTRO: download it through Steam. I've never had install problems with that, and it's MUCH faster than PMB (I can usually get all files in about 30 minutes). You'll need a Steam account to do this, but it's free to create one, and you can choose to play the game without Steam afterwards.

I think it's my actual computer that is the problem. It's starting up the same bull of restarting itsself over and over with no good reason again -_-
I'm just going to have to get a better computer when I can, I think.
Thanks anyways guys -_-

You could try a full re-install of your operating system, that might help... Especially if you don't have the money for a new one. (I'm getting a new desktop soon, I could sell you this one for a good price but the shipping would be a problem I think...)

Aww... that's very generous, Fordil. I appreciate the offer.
My brother (who built the computer), says it's not a hardware issue.. that it was working fine until I started altering the software. Apparently he purposely put McAfee on as the antivirus program instead of AVG which I was using. I didn't know *looks innocent*
Well.... this computer is very testy... it doesn't like me, lol. My brother seems to be the only one who can talk to it o_0
So tomorrow he will try to find a solution for it. Hopefully it won't need to be wiped again (cause it took him half a day to set it back up from that), but once we get it running again *fingers crossed*, I'm banned from doing maintenance... I'm allowed to play and chat on it and that's it, lol. I said that's fine by me xD
I'll have him install the few programs I use, cause it likes him better, lol.

Well I hope he can sort it out for you, without wiping and reinstalling os and programs on it, I have done that too many times in the past with windows 95 + 98. I think your brother is right if it is a bit twitchy, if it aint broke no fiddling with it.

I don't use either of these antivirus programs, but they both have good reputation so it's a matter of personal choice. I always go with the combo of Avast and Anti-Malwarebytes, both have a very good free version and can be used together if you set them to ignore each other.
Have you thought about installing a newer version of Windows instead of XP? It's not really necessary but it might help because some programs are no longer compatible with anything lower than Vista, and some even only 7/8.
On another note, I suspect your brother has decent knowledge about software since he installs your computer for you, you might want to ask him about programs you have/had installed now which were useful, which could be replaced with something better etc. For example, Microsoft Internet Explorer is seen as one of the worst webbrowsers available.

I also had serious problems when the last updates came around. As you all have surely noticed, since Update 9 they have done several changes to the updating process. The game is located under .../PrgramData/Turbine/Lord of the Rings Online , right? This folder by default is hidden and now it comes... write protected!! So i got plenty error messages at Update 9.x Try to remove the Write-protect attribute of the folder. To me this was the solution. Perhaps for you too greetz Hagarr
