*First post is an author's note, because he's just too weird for me to think of just diving in...
Alenidan's from a Dwarf Fortress (my husband loves that game, and I was looking for a way to characterize my dwarves for LOTRO, so...) where they got attacked by "oliphaunts" a lot. He's suffered a few too many knocks to the head, and is paranoid about the creatures, so now he sees them everywhere. (I mean everywhere). I even have my own dictionary for him:
bear = roaring oliphaunts
Neekerbreekers (Bree-land) = biting oliphaunts; (Lone-lands) = sand oliphaunts
rat = long-tailed squeaking oliphaunts
moose = antlered stunning oliphaunts
deer = peaceful stunning oliphaunts
elk = honking stunning oliphaunts
boar = horned stunning oliphaunts
rabbit = fuzzy widdle oliphaunts
squirrel = huge-tailed fuzzy widdle oliphaunts
chickens = pecking oliphaunts
wolf = smaller fanged oliphaunts
fox = really small fanged oliphaunts
prowler = deadly stalking oliphaunts
spider = tiny poisoning oliphaunts
toad = stomping fat slimy oliphaunts of Moria
warg = the dread Fanged Oliphaunt
cave lizards = little scaly oliphaunts
mammoth = wooly oliphaunts
crawler = slimy squiggly elephant
hawk = beaked killer elephants
crow = dark-beaked elephants
crabain = dark killer beaked oliphaunts
sickle-fly = flitting oliphaunts
slime = mushy oliphaunts
slug = slimy mushy oliphaunts
salamander = fire-breathing scaled little oliphaunts
cave claw = clawing oliphaunts
deep-claw = stunning clawing oliphaunts
cave spitters = oliphaunts with giant slicing pincers
gredbyg = little oliphaunts with shells
wyrm = scaled med-size oliphaunt (spits fire or ice!)
huorn = tree-oliphaunt-monster
orc = well duh that's an orc, whaddya think I am, daft??
goblin = same... (little orcs)
trolls = stomping stunning orc-oliphaunts
giant = bigger stomping stunning orc-oliphaunts
Balrog = The Great Giant Flaming Oliphaunt that Ate Durin
Wights = undead oliphaunts
Lights = elephant spirits
Nazgul = flaming undead oliphaunts
bargeth = poisonous undead roaring elephants
Watcher = Great Big Giant Tentacled Oliphaunt that Tried to Kill Bosi
Otherwise, Alenidan's Fortress was in the Blue Mountains, long the place of Thrain and then Thorin. He moved to Thorin's Hall when the fortress got decimated (they dug too deep and found these demonic creatures... and between those and the oliphaunt attacks they had no chance!). He found that he likes metalwork, but making weapons is his true calling - for what else, to rid the world of the zillions of "oliphaunts". He used to have occasional spells due to head injuries, but Finnsech the Lore Master gave him a poultice of garlic skins to carry with him and that's helped greatly.
If you spend enough time with this one, he'll start going on about how the "oliphaunts" are EVERYWHERE... Ye can always spot th' beady little eyes... oh, it's horrible! Jest horrible!..." (and the rest of the time if you point out to him it doesn't look like one, the answer is always "Aye, tha's how they get ye; they're masters o' disguise, they are!")
Of late, he has met his sworn enemy, the Great Big Giant Tentacled Oliphaunt that Tried to Kill Bosi. And the thing DID kill one dwarf in that instance, so now Alenidan is out to get all of these things, and rid Moria of their presence.
*stay tuned...
