Where to find Role-Playing opportunities

Recently I have heard people lamenting about wanting to role-play, but not being able to find anyone to rp with.

I would like to offer a few suggestions to get started.

1. Weekly concerts - Each week there are concerts, some of which I post in our calendar. These concerts are excellent places to make new friends and get into some of the best social role-playing groups on the server.
The people who attend these concerts are generally friendly and more than happy to expand their social circles. They have a practice of welcoming new-comers and making it easy to join in on conversations.
If you've learned the dances from the festivals but don't know how to sync them, these people are eager to help you learn how.

2. The Prancing Pony - This is a good place to meet and get into role-playing with all sorts of people.
There are varying types of rp to be found in the Pony....some dramatic, some social. Not everyone there is top notch, but it's a place to start.

3. The Watchers - Bree's 'non-official' group of policemen, the Watchers can be found all around Bree.....attempting to keep the peace.....sorta. *grins*
If you think you might enjoy 'law enforcement', I suggest you seek out Arion, the leader of the Watchers.

(For those who might join the Watchers....a brief explanation concerning the standing of Faral and the Kin as a whole.

We once had a kin member who became involved with the Watchers. One day we suddenly got a message from him that he was in pursuit of a criminal and he 'put out the call' to our kin members to help him.
While we applauded his involvement in role-playing and his enjoyment of his 'job', our kin is NOT a 'police force' and Faral does NOT want our kin as a whole to be pulled into scenarios that might cause problems. So please do not call upon our kin to deal with Watcher involved situations. )

I'm available for RP. Problem is, I log in so infrequently it wouldn't matter. That and Rendariel's determined to help in Rohan and around Isengard, so traveling to Bree (when you see her there, it's OOC, since she's just offloading stuff, then going back to Rohan) is tough RP-wise.

I love to RP. Sadly, I don't think I know a whole lot about the lore. I may make a lot of lore-mistakes. (Waiting for the Silmarillion and a few other books to come in the mail! )
If I'm on, I frequently take RP as a higher priority.

The more one knows about lore, the more interesting and realistic (with respect to Middle-earth) one's RP can be. However, one doesn't need to know much about lore to RP well and to enjoy RP-ing.

In fact, if one isn't lore-knowledgeable one may find it helpful to RP a character who hasn't lived millenia (like an Elf), hasn't traveled widely (like an Elf or a Dúnadan (singular of Dúnedain)), doesn't know a lot of lore (like an especially learned Elf or Man), and so on; that way if another character asks your character about something that you the player don't know about, then you can in-character simply say "Oh, I've not heard of that person/place/event/etc." (Conversely, that much greater is the challenge of playing a character who has lived millenia and does know a lot. XD)

The more lore-knowledgeable in the kin (I include myself, but there are others—including, for instance, Herebrand, who actually has a lore thread going—that know way more than I) are glad to pass on their knowledge. Don't hesitate to ask about lore stuff, whether here on the forum or in kin chat. =)

Since arriving here in Landy I have noticed that most RP seems to be in Bree. I come from Laurelin so I have a history of heavy RP (backstories, story-lines, different types of relationships, lore, etc). One thing I have learned is RP can happen anywhere and anytime. Some of the best RP I have been involved in is when I meet people out in the wilds hunting, questing, deeding, etc.

Something else I learned is to be build a culture of RP. Another words, do not be afraid to make mistakes because they will improve your RP skills. Do not be afraid to ask others to RP, because many people that have RP on with their names when you select them are just as eager as you are to RP. Do not be afraid to Google questions on lore or anything else to do with Middle Earth (I am constantly looking up elven words as I RP, lore, etc). And if I was smart I would figure out how to create a program for spell checking and grammar checking. I would be rich if that caught on in the gaming community. What I am trying to say...do not be afraid of poor spelling or grammar (If you must correct yourself because of that overwhelming desire to show that other person you know how to spell you can do it through emote. Example: Isroth takes note that he did not use the right human word and corrects himself. Than I go to SAY and I make the corrected sentence with the proper spelled word.). Some have a talent for RP but most of us have to learn as we go! If you learn to relax as you learn you will find yourself getting hooked on RP...it is very addictive because it brings life to the characters as well as the game!

Another thing that can be done is creating RP events. We could designate certain days to RP, when, and even where we do it at. Does not always have to be the Pony. Some of the best relationships I have in game today are from RP events. We can go in groups to the concerts and create all kinds of dynamic RP moments. Some of the most fun I have had in game is going with a handful of RP'ers on a long travel to certain destination to aid the people there. It usually takes 2 days to 2 weeks. All depends on the planning. During these type of events the RP'ers get to know each others characters as backstories are shared and new relationships are made. Once returning...new friendships have been made.

Lastly, I learned...keep others interested in your RP. Many RP'ers dump everything in one off load about their characters. Hold things in reserve about your characters backstory or current struggles. When I RP I do something called Evolving RP. I take my characters through events that change them just like we experience in RL. I also allow other peoples characters to change my character to certain degrees. Something they said that strikes a internal difference or event that did the same thing. This keeps your character interesting to not only you but to others as well. Therefore, it will open up more doors down the road that will give you and your character more chances to RP.

Would love to hear some more ideas on this because this is a part of the game I thrive on!

I would love to see a few events take place earlier in the day, as I am at work most evenings (central / chicago time).
Even just an RP get together.
The Pony isnt very active during the morning/noon that Im on, unless its a weekend or Im on during a later time.
