In the Golden Wood of Lorien lived Eleningolmo, (Star Scholar), so named for his love of studying the stars and their movements in the heavens, and his beloved wife Lorelanya (Dream Weaver), so named for her ability to interpret dreams.
In time they had a son, Marofeon, (Morally Good Spirit), whom they loved greatly. Fifty years later, they welcomed a baby daughter, Nessa Elenesse (Little Star Gazer), who was adored by her parents and especially by her brother Marofeon. Over the next 250 years, the bond between brother and sister grew strong and Marofeon doted upon his 'little star'and she in turn nearly worshipped him.
Then one day, word came to the Golden Host that the Mirk Eaves across the Anduin river had been overrun by Orcs, and so Marofeon joined his fellow elves as they set out to erradicate this terrible threat.
Three weeks later, a small group of badly wounded elves returned to the Wood and described the terrible battle they fought upon reaching the Mirk Eaves. The Orc horde had been nearly wiped out and the rest ran for their lives but the elves had suffered a great loss in lives....Marofeon among those who died.
His family mourned his passing, but none moreso than Elenesse, who fell into a deep sadness none could pull her from. She was haunted by memories of her brother everywhere she turned and felt his loss like a sword through her heart day in and day out.
When her mentor, Thalion, announced his plans to travel to the lands of Men, Elenesse decided to join him in hopes of escaping her painful memories, and so they sailed down the Anduin river into the Bay of Balfalas, around the Cape of Ras Morthil, along the coastline and up along the Brandwine river.
As she and Thalion traveled along the road from the Shire to the city of Bree, they came across a young man running down a hillside in terror and he begged them to help his two young friends who were still up the hill in a place he called The Downs. Without hesitation, Thalion and Elenesse ran up the hill and along the pass and stopped in their tracks, horrified by the sight before them.
On the ground lay two young men, their bodies nearly torn to shreds, surrounded by a horde of moaning, rotting, walking dead. Before they could take up their lutes, Thalion and Elenesse found themselves beset by the horrific monsters. Suddenly Thalion gave Elenesse a great shove, shouting for her to run, but the shove merely knocked her off balance and she fell, striking her head on a rock. As darkness took her, the last thing she saw was Thalion charging to meet the oncoming mob.
Days later, she awoke to find herself in the city of Bree, alone and uncertain of the road ahead.
