Faral has asked me to post this as the "Official Policy" of the Alliance when it comes to crafting items for fellow members of our Kinship:
NOTE: These rules are in regard only to crafting for characters who are fellows in the Kinship. It does not apply to non-Kinship alts, or to those characters completely unaffiliated with the Kinship as characters. (For those, feel free to charge what you feel is reasonable for your time, skill, and mats. Though a discount is somewhat encouraged for non-Kin alts of characters in the Kinship because it may be only a matter of time and generosity before those alts become Kin.)
Crafting for Points
1 - If you are crafting items of any level "for points" (rather than for specific characters), please ask on channel if anyone can use the items you are making or the range of items you are willing to make for points. This helps gear up fellow Kin who might not have the crafts or levels needed for the gear you can make, and helps the items serve a purpose as more than "vendor trash".
2 - If you need basic mats to craft for points, you are not forbidden to ask in channel if any Kin have spare mats they don't need ... however we encourage players to obtain their own mats needed to upgrade their own crafting levels. This is easily accomplished by simply doing "deeds"
3 - When asked for spare mats by someone following #2... don't charge for the mats you send. You can either spare them or you can't. (If they are rare mats, note this and the polite thing for the one asking to do is offer to at least pay a token sum if possible.)
General Crafting for Kin
If you are crafting for Kin in general, this is the preferred approach for this Kinship…
1 – If you can spare the mats, it’s free.
2 – If the recipient can supply all the mats, it’s free.
3 – If you have but can’t really spare the mats, such as they are rare or slated for one of your other characters but can be recovered, charge a minimal cost (e.g., slightly more than a token, but less than market price on the auction block).
4 – If you have to buy the materials on the auction block, the recipient reimburses you for the cost (and be honest about the price, don’t pad the amount for a profit).
Guidelines #3 and #4 are for when someone asks if anyone can craft the items. If you are offering to craft or process materials or finished goods, guideline #1 is preferred, but #2 is fine if you have more people accepting the offer than you have mats.
As a final note: Using crit enhancers is always “at your own risk”. If you are supplying the enhancers, make sure you provide or have enough to ensure a crit if that’s the item you needs, but also accept that the numbers may not always turn up in your favor. (And if you’re crafting with another’s enhancers, return any remaining once the work request is completed.)
